Getting R Done!

I love this little phrase: Get R Done! I remember when we went down to New Orleans for our post-Katrina missions trip that Ron loved to say this little phrase. Well, let me tell you something...the people of CFA and our associate team members are getting R done!!

Things are always "popping" around our CFA campus since the devastation of the flood. You won't find a dull moment around here. So many volunteers are working real hard. People continually come in for assistance. Work teams are starting to check in with Monty and Susan about upcoming missions trips to Columbus. A team from Bedford, Indiana organized our bounty of blessings into a quick pick-up and release for the BIG Outreach coming up on Monday. All kinds of work contractors are busy inspecting our facilities for their part of the rebuilding phase that we are set to begin real soon!

Plus my staff is eager to do their part in not only getting back up to operational status, but have been involved in the HOPE Outreach Ministry Center as well. Kristy and I came in on our day off to assist in various areas around the command center. Allison and Pastor Joel are working hard to restore order to a variety of ministry areas: promotion, Sunday's bulletin, copier, printers, church website, computer software issues on the new computer, workers for Monday's outreach, checking on our clunker of a church van and assisting wherever I need them. I even caught Kevin and Martha here on their "vacation" checking on things and even helping out with some of their regular duties! NOW tell me something...don't I have the BEST staff in the State of Indiana or what??

It is awesome to watch the members of our congregation stepping up into new roles of ministry and service for our church during this season of ministry in the midst of disaster. Here are just some of the people doing their part and using their talents for the kingdom of God:

Mike J., Rand, Betsy, Sandy H., Sandy B., Sonda, Mary Ann, Tim, Judy, Rosalinda, Marcia, Jerry, Pete, Pam, Sondra, Mike E., Tony, Kelli, Ruth, Jane, Malorie, Helen, Yemi, Lynn, Kwitcha, Chong, Leah, Robert, Shawn, David, Don, Peggy, John, Jack, Sue, Isaac, Umong, Tammy, our young people, plus so many more. And that's just the ones that I have seen...I'm sure that there's a whole lot more.

Emergency...my son just had an accident and cut his leg pretty bad. Gotta go to Prompt Med since our hospital is shut down. Say a little prayer for Devon.

Be back later when things settle down...

OK...it's 1:15 AM! Wow...what an experience that Devon will have for a lifetime! Devon was running from the kitchen down towards the basement when he slid and ran his shin right into the edge of a wall...bam! Huge gash...blood...major pain...the whole works. After we calmed him down I took him to Prompt Med...when we arrived we found it was closed. The sign directed us to the Emergency Area on the Hospital parking lot. They had several large MED 1 units positioned for emergency situations. We learned that these units were only used down after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and also one other time. NOW they were shipped to Columbus to provide a portable ER for our city. Pretty fascinating experience. Devon's nurse was keeping his mind off of the needle that the doc was using to sew him up nice and tight. I think she and her assistant were rating the most fascinating wounds of the night and they ranked his right up there at the top! Gotta love those ER nurses...where is Mark W. when you need him?? After getting 9 stitches he was back up and good to go...

Well, let me backtrack a bit before our excitement for the evening and give you a recap of my day...
  • Another awesome and exciting day...

  • Lots of progress on prep work for the HOPE Outreach on Monday...

  • Lots of progress on getting things lined up for our rebuilding project that is fast approaching...phone system...security system...termite guys...pews... sound systems... contractors... electricians...plumbers...framers...architects...drywallers...HVAC...you name it - we got them! It is almost a complete reconstruction project!

  • I received some wonderful mail today from people all across the country...the church my father pioneeered and pastored in New York for some 17 years sent a huge check...a church plant in Indiana sent us a sacrificial check...and a friend from Springfield, IL where I grew up sent me a generous check as well (that was some 30+ years ago).

  • Mayor Armstrong called me on my cell phone and dropped by the HOPE Center to see the truck-load of blessings for our wounded community and tired flood recoverers...he was very impressed with the pallets and piles that he saw in our fellowship hall!

  • My staff met with the one who custom built our new office computer to find data and files that were missing but somewhere lodged on the old hard drive...good news...they found everything! PTL!

All in all, another fantastic day picked out by the ONE with the Master Plan. Just following the Shepherd as He leads and guides us on this amazing journey of faith (the Amazing Race has nothing on us here @ CFA...we are living out the dream race right here in our own backyard!!)

Hoping to sleep in tomorrow morning. My job tomorrow will be to work up at Victory Field in Indy for another concession job for my son's band fair share!
