St. Elmo

That's the name of the town in Illinois where we first pastored. We were involved in youth ministry for 8 1/2 years before we accepted our first pastorate in St. Elmo. It was a great 4 1/2 years @ St. Elmo First Assembly of God. We learned a lot. God used us in those years to reach many people for Christ. Our three boys were young when we lived there: Jordon was almost three, Trenton was about two months old and Devon was born later in '94.

Memories. Yesterday a family from that church visited us in our Sunday Morning service. It was wonderful to visit with the Borntreger's in our home after church. Mark and Brenda are precious people. Their son Kevin and grandson Taran joined them. In fact, it was Kevin (who is now 23) who initiated the visit. He wanted to see us before he leaves for deployment with the National Guard in a couple of weeks.

Kevin was a scrappy little boy of about 6 when we accepted the church in 1991. Now to see him some 17 years later was a thrill. He is a handsome young man. He's taller than me...bigger than me...and stronger than me (not that I was ever that strong anyway ; - ) And to think that he will be serving our country in his first tour of duty. I am very proud of him!

Kevin, I pray that you will continue to live for Jesus. Stay close to Him. Talk to Him. Never forget that He is just a prayer away! He will never leave you or abandon you while you serve your country overseas. His hand will be over your life and His Spirit in your heart. May God bless you abundantly!
